Introduction to me and the purpose of this site

Hi, I’m Ian Thompson. The purpose of this website is to encourage Christians to grow in their individual prayer lives and in their prayers together with the people of God, and especially that we might learn together to pray more fervently and more effectively for the work of God in Cornwall.

What I believe

I long to see the Church of Jesus Christ growing both in numbers and in holiness and making a dynamic impact in our communities. I believe that this will only happen as we learn to live out our lives in obedience to the Word of God and in the power of the Holy Spirit. I uphold the truths of historic, biblical Christianity, which I believe are well summarised in the “Doctrinal basis” of the Fellowship of Independent Churches (FIEC).

A bit more background

I am blessed to be married to Christine. We have four children and two grandchildren.

For most of my adult life I taught French and Spanish, and I taught in a Cornish school for 23 years. After taking early retirement from teaching, I gained an MA in Contemporary Church Leadership from Union School of Theology, underwritten by the University of Chester. Since retiring, I have had the privilege of being able to use my Spanish on a number of mission trips to Peru.

We were part of the Grace Community church family of churches in South East Cornwall for 25 years and I served at various times as an elder in each of its three member churches at Morval, Torpoint and Bodmin. I also served in an interim pastoral role in all 3 churches during times of transition. For about 8 years I had a paid role as part-time Church Administrator for the Grace family of churches.

We now fellowship at St Martin’s Church, Liskeard.
